The George A. Cavalletto Law Scholarship Fund presented by the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara is now available.

Hon. Mario G. Olmos Memorial Scholarship
Since 1980, La Raza Lawyers Association of Fresno has awarded scholarships to deserving law students who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership ability, involvement in the Latino community, financial need, and ties to California’s Central Valley. Since 1991, their scholarship fund has been dedicated to the memory of the late Superior Court Judge Mario G. Olmos, a Fresno County jurist and respected community leader who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 1990 at the age of 43.The applications for the scholarship are available here and must be received on or before January 14, 2011.

Michael F. O’Donnell Memorial Scholarship
The Community Foundation Sonoma County will be awarding the Michael F. O’Donnel Memorial Scholarship in the sum of $2,500 to students currently enrolled in law school or pursuing a law-related career, for the Foundation’s 2011 Scholarship program.Interested applicants for the scholarship must:
1. Have a permanent address in Sonoma County or have attended high school located in Sonoma County.
2. Submit a completed application to the Community Foundation Sonoma County no later than 5:00p.m., February 28,2011.

In 1998, Foley & Lardner created this program to raise awareness of diversity-related issues in the legal profession. A strong and effective diversity program is one of the highest priorities of the firm, and the Diversity Scholarship Program* exemplifies Foley’s tangible commitment to the advancement of diverse law students and to achieving a more inclusive legal community. Through the program, Foley awards a $5,000 scholarship to a diverse law student at select law schools: Berkeley, Duke, Florida, Georgetown, Michigan, Northwestern, UCLA, and Wisconsin.Foley will award one scholarship in the amount of $5,000 to a first-year student at each law school noted above. To be eligible, an applicant must be either a) a member of one of the following government recognized racial/ethnic groups as defined by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance programs: American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black, or Hispanic or b) identify as LGBT. The scholarship will be paid either to the recipient or to the law school (at the recipient’s request) during the recipient’s spring semester and is to be applied to tuition, books, fees, and other expenses incident to law school attendance.
Consideration is given to significant involvement in community activities; significant involvement in diversity-related student organizations; outstanding work or personal achievements; and undergraduate and law school academic achievement. Financial need is not a consideration. Foley’s Diversity Scholarship Program Committee will select each scholarship recipient.

CA Bar Foundation 2011 Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship
The application for the California Bar Foundation’s Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship for 2011 graduating California law students is now available.As one of the only scholarship programs in the country that helps public interest law students with bar exam costs, the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship supports young California lawyers entering the legal profession as public interest attorneys. All winners will receive California Bar/Bri Law Review Bar Exam review courses (valued at more than $3,500), with top winners also receiving $2,000 in cash to help defray the fees and related expenses of taking the California Bar Exam.

Because each school can nominate four applicants for the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship, applications will need to be submitted to the Law School’s Financial Aid office no later than 5:00 PM, Monday, January 24.

Japanese American Bar Association Scholarship Opportunities
The Japanese American Bar Association Educational Foundation (JEF) located in Los Angeles is pleased to offer four scholarships of $2,000 each. LRAP 101: The Federal Government’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program & Student Loan Repayment
This presentation will cover extensively how LRAP works, including the program requirements and the “Low Bono” and union coverage pilot program. We will address LRAP repayment options and how the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) can be utilized while receiving LRAP support. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.

Justice Hollis G. Best Scholarship
As a memorial to the late Presiding Justice Hollis G. Best, his friends have established a scholarship to encourage and support outstanding academic achievement and commitment to service by law students.
The Best Scholarship is an annual award presented this year in the amount of $1,000 during the Spring 2011 semester.
Each candidate must be a law student who has successfully completed at least one year of law school. Strong preference will be given to current residents of Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Stanislaus, Tulare or Tuolumne Counties.
Primary considerations are academic achievement and the breadth and depth of the applicant’s extracurricular and community activities. Financial need and demonstrated leadership capabilities are also taken into consideration.

The Harry Zekian Memorial Scholarship Fund of the Fresno Countly Bar Association announces the availability of two (2) $2,500 Scholarship Awards for Spring 2011.
Requirements: Applicant must be a resident of Fresno County who is a law student in good standing of a school of lwa in California accredited by the State of California; Students in law schools outside Fresno County are eligible so long as their permanent family residence address is in Fresno County, California.
Availability: Two (2) grants in the amount of $2,500 each, will be available for Spring 2011.

Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship Information Session
The deadline for the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans is coming up on November 1. The fellowship provides $90,000 ($45,000 per each of two years) to graduate students nationwide. If you are an immigrant, you must be a naturalized citizen or permanent resident in order to be eligible for the fellowship. If you are a child of immigrants, they must be naturalized citizens or permanent residents.
