In 1998, Foley & Lardner LLP created the Minority Scholarship Program in an effort to raise awareness of diversity-related issues in the legal profession. A strong and effective diversity program is one of the highest priorities of their firm, and the Minority Scholarship Program exemplifies Foley’s tangible commitment to the advancement of ethnically diverse law students and to achieving a more diverse legal community. Through the program, Foley awards $5,000 to a minority law student at eight select law schools: Berkeley, Duke, Florida, Georgetown, Michigan, Northwestern, UCLA, and Wisconsin.
Foley will award one scholarship in the amount of $5,000 to a first year student at each law school noted above who is a member of one of the following government recognized racial/ethnic groups as defined by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance programs: American Indian/Alaskan native; Asian/Pacific Islander; Black; or Hispanic.
Foley’s Minority Scholarship Program Committee will select each scholarship recipient, adhering to the standards used by Foley’s Recruiting Committee in hiring summer associates. Consideration is given to significant involvement in community activities; significant involvement in minority student organizations; outstanding work or personal achievements; undergraduate records; and interest in and/or ties to a city in which Foley practices. Financial need is not a consideration.
