Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship

In 1978 the Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Fund was established by Helen and Richard Fox and Friends to honor the memory of their son who, as a proud member of the Berks County Bar Association, Pennsylvania, served as a young attorney in the Public Defender’s Office.

In June 2000, the Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Fund was transferred to the Berks County Community Foundation to manage and administer. The award of $3,000 is presented annually at the Berks County Bar Association Law Day Event. It is given to help fund a deserving Berks county, Pennsylvania, resident embarking on his or her second year at an accredited Law School.

Please refer to the website, www.bccf.org for the application. Completed applications must be submitted to Berks County Community Foundation between January 15 and April 1st.

Scholarship Deadline Approaching: Foley & Lardner

In 1998, Foley created the Minority Scholarship Program in an effort to raise awareness of diversity related issues in the legal profession. A strong and effective diversity program is one of the highest priorities of their firm, and the Minority Scholarship Program exemplifies Foley’s tangible commitment to the advancement of minority law students and to achieving a more diverse legal community.

Minority students in their first year of law school at Berkeley, Duke, Florida, Georgetown, Michigan, Northwestern, UCLA, and Wisconsin are eligible to apply for the scholarship. One scholarship in the amount of $5,000 is awarded to a student at each school.

Consideration is given to significant involvement in community activities; significant involvement in minority student organizations; outstanding work or personal achievements; and academic records. Financial need is not a consideration. Foley’s Minority Scholarship Program Committee will select each scholarship recipient.

The Japanese American Bar Association Educational Foundation (JEF), located in Los Angeles, is pleased to offer four scholarships of $2,000 each.  Law students at any accredited law school are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Deadline Approaching: Mario Olmos Scholarship

The La Raza Lawyers Association of Fresno is pleased to announce the Mario Olmos Scholarship.  Since 1980, La Raza Lawyers Association of Fresno has awarded scholarships to deserving law students who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership ability, involvement in the Latino community, financial need, and ties to California’s Central Valley.  Since 1991, the scholarship fund has been dedicated to the memory of the late Superior Court Judge Mario G. Olmos, a Fresno County jurist and respected community leader.

Applications can be downloaded from Financial Aid’s website or larazalaw.com.

Depending on the number of scholarships awarded, the scholarships can vary in amount.  Most recently the amounts have varied from $1,000 to $3,000.

Applications must be received on or before January 15, 2010.

The La Raza Lawyers Association of Fresno is pleased to announce the Mario Olmos Scholarship.  Since 1980, La Raza Lawyers Association of Fresno has awarded scholarships to deserving law students who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership ability, involvement in the Latino community, financial need, and ties to California’s Central Valley.  Since 1991, the scholarship fund has been dedicated to the memory of the late Superior Court Judge Mario G. Japanese American Bar Association Scholarship

Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship

The California Bar Foundation’s Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship is now available. This program recognizes outstanding graduating California law students with financial need who are embarking on careers in public service by providing financial support to costs related to taking the California Bar Exam.  Winners will receive California Bar/Bri Law Review Bar Exam review courses and/or $2,000 in cash to help defray fees and related expenses of taking the California Bar Exam.

Because each school can nominate four applicants for the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship, applications will need to be submitted to the Law School’s Financial Aid office by Wednesday, January 20, 2010.

Leadership Institute for Women of Color Attorneys in Law and Business

This scholarship is for women of color law students who (1) have completed at least one year of law school; (2) are attending an accredited law school in the U.S. at the time of their application; (3) are “in good standing” in their law schools; (4) are citizens of the United States of America; (5) minimum GPA of 2.5 (equivalent) or better; (6) have completed the scholarship application and submitted an official transcript; and (7) have demonstrated a commitment to the Profession and are active in their community and law school.

Sonoma County Women-In-Law Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded annually to assist a law student in completing his or her education. The scholarship committee will consider the following attributes:

1) Sonoma County residence
2) academic achievement
3) financial need
4) second- or third-year law student status and
5) demonstrated interest in promoting equal opportunity and justice for all women.

Justice Hollis G. Best Scholarship

This scholarship was established as a memorial to the late Presiding Justice Hollis G. Best to encourage and support outstanding academic achievement and commitment to service by law students. Candidates must be law students who have successfully completed at least one year of law school. Strong preference will be given to current residents of Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Stanislaus, Tulare or Tuolumne Counties. Primary considerations are academic achievement and the breadth and depth of the applicant’s extracurricular and community activities. Financial need and demonstrated leadership capabilities are also taken into consideration.

Vietnamese American Bar Assoc. of Southern CA Scholarship

The Vietnamese American Bar Association of Southern California and the Fourth Annual National Conference of Vietnamese American Attorneys are pleased to announce that they will award up to three scholarships to deserving law students for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Either one or two letters of recommendation sent directly to the address below or a list of three references
An essay (maximum of 800 words) covering the following topics:
a. Your involvement in any public service or leadership role, within the Vietnamese-American community;

Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship

Banner & Witcoff, Ltd. is pleased to offer the Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship for law students. This scholarship is part of Banner and Witcoff’s continuing commitment to fostering the development of intellectual property lawyers from diverse backgrounds.
Law students who meet the selection criteria and have entered into a JD program at an ABA-accredited law school in the U.S. are eligible to apply for the Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship.
Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Mark T. Banner Scholarship review board based on the following criteria:
Commitment to the pursuit of a career in IP law
Academic merit (undergraduate, graduate and law school)
Written communication skills
Leadership qualities and community involvement
Member of a historically underrepresented group in IP law (including race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and disability)

Recipients of the Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship will receive $5,000 payable for the Fall semester of their second and third year of law school.

The Fresno County Bar Association announces the availability of one $1,000 scholarship award for Spring 2010.
Requirements: The applicant must be a resident of Fresno County who is a law student in good standing of a school of law in California accredited by the State Bar of California; Students in law schools outside Fresno County are eligible so long as their permanent family residence address is in Fresno County, California.
