Berkeley Technology Law Journal – Spring 2011 Writing Competition

The Berkeley Technology Law Journal is soliciting entries for our annual student writing competition. We will accept submissions from J.D. candidates on a wide variety of topics at the intersection of law and technology, including but not limited to: intellectual property, antitrust, First Amendment, entertainment and new media, telecommunications, biotechnology, internet, and cybercrime. First prize includes $2,000, and Berkeley Law entrants also compete for the Aldo J. Test Award, carrying a $1,000 prize. The winning article will also be published in the Fall 2011 issue if it meets the Journal’s publication standards. The submission deadline is February 25, 2011.

BTLJ is one of the oldest, most respected, and most cited technology law journals in the country. The journal strives to keep judges, policymakers, practitioners, and the academic community abreast of the dynamic field of technology law.

Peer Counseling Now Available!

Just in time for finals! Peer counseling is now available for all students!

Feeling overwhelmed? Frustrated? Down? Confused about what you are doing in law school? Need to talk about school, stress, friends, family, LIFE? Tired of pretending everything is fine?

Law Students for Law Students (LSLS) is a new student organization dedicated to providing support for law students through peer counseling and wellness programming. LSLS allows students to talk honestly to other students who understand what law school is like. Trained peer counselors offer free, confidential peer counseling services in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner. We don’t care if you don’t have everything together. We don’t care if you don’t even know what you are doing in law school. Come talk to us. Seriously.

Apply to be a Peer Counselor!

Law Students for Law Students (LSLS) is a new student organization dedicated to providing support for law students through peer counseling and mentoring. Applications are available now for peer counseling positions. Email lawstudentsforlawstudents@gmail.com to request an application and receive information on the group’s plans for the upcoming semester, anticipated training schedule, time commitment, and other details of participation. Applications are due Friday, March 19 at 5:00 p.m.

Peer Counseling Group Forming!

Law Students for Law Students (LSLS) is a new student organization dedicated to providing support for law students through peer counseling and mentoring. Peer counselors will offer free, confidential counseling services in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner. LSLS peer counselors will receive clinical training from a professional psychologist and experienced peer counselors.

LSLS allows students to talk to a peer counselor who understands what they are going through. This first-hand perspective can be especially valuable in high-stress environment like law school. Accordingly, students who have experienced their own challenges in law school will be particularly helpful and are encouraged to apply.

California Law Review Fall Submissions Deadline

The California Law Review is accepting 3L student submissions! The deadline for our fall publishing cycle is October 1, 2009 at noon.

Please submit your pieces to CLR’s Administrator, Maro Vidal-Manou, at mvmanou@law.berkeley.edu. Include: (a) a double-spaced PDF copy of your comment, with a title and an abstract; and (b) a cover sheet with the title of your piece, your class year, and your contact information (telephone, email, address).

Criminal Law Journal Writing Workshop

Still looking for a class to add for the semester? Enroll in the Criminal Law Journal Writing Workshop with Prof. Russi. In the class, you will write an article related to criminal law that will be published in the California Annual Review, an annual update on developments in California criminal law that is published by the Berkeley Journal of Criminal Law. The workshop will be a great way to develop a paper to meet your writing requirement and will look great on your resume!

Dinner with Professor Anthony Zaloom 9/10 5pm

The Berkeley Chinese Law Society is hosting a dinner with Professor Anthony Zaloom on Wednesday, September 10th at 5pm.

Anthony Zaloom teaches Law and Business in China. He has worked in major law firms in both China and Japan for the last thirty-five years dealing with foreign and outward bound investments, corporate transactions, and litigation. He has been a guest lecturer at Stanford University Law School and at Tokyo University Law Department.

BHSA Funding Meeting

Hello Boalt Students,

For those organizations that could not make it to the BHSA funding meeting today I will be holding another brief meeting this Friday (9/5/2008) during lunch. The room is still TBD, but the meeting will be at 12:45 on Friday. This meeting is mandatory for all groups applying for funding for the 2008-2009 school year. All student organizations will need to send one representative from their organization that will serve as the primary contact for all BHSA funding purposes. Applications will only be made available via email to the designated representative who attends this meeting.
